Calcium
Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the human body. It is a critical micronutrient for a wide variety of cellular processes throughout the body and within the skin . One to two percent of our body weight is calcium, 99 percent of which is in teeth and bones. The other one percent regulates key metabolic functions in the blood, extra cellular fluids and within cells of tissues. Calcium is needed for cell growth, bone density and for dozens of metabolic processes. Additionally, it keeps the heart pumping, muscles moving and nerves communicating.
Biotin
Biotin is a B-complex vitamin that is essential for the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and amino acids. One major benefit of biotin as a dietary supplement, however, is maintaining healthy hair, nails and elasticity of skin. It also helps to prevent a variety of other skin conditions and is especially important for such a dynamic system as the skin.
Magnesium
Magnesium is necessary for calcium absorption and is an important co-factor in more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body. It helps maintain normal muscle and nerve function, keeps the heart rhythm steady, supports a healthy immune system, and keeps bones strong. Magnesium also helps regulate blood sugar levels, promotes normal blood pressure, and is known to be involved in energy metabolism and protein synthesis.
Along with calcium, magnesium acts as a countercharge to the functional groups on glycosaminoglycans in connective tissue and subsequently helps to bind water.
When taken concurrently, vitamin C helps to make magnesium easily absorbed by your body.
Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that is found in living organisms. High concentrations are found in soft connective tissue and in the fluid surrounding the eye. It is also present in some cartilage and joint fluids, and in skin tissue.
In the skin, hyaluronic acid is the jelly-like substance that fills the space between collagen and elastin fibers. The role of hyaluronic acid in skin is to:
- provide a mechanism of transport of essential nutrients from the bloodstream to living skin cells
- hydrate the skin by holding in water
Either through the natural process of aging or through exposure to environmental factors such as pollutants and sunlight, the body's natural store of hyaluronic acid is degraded and destroyed.
Below are a few key benefits of hyaluronic acid supplementation:
- Hyaluronic acid is an “internal cosmetic” to hydrate the skin with proven absorption and bioavailability. As a nutritional supplement, hyaluronic acid moisturizes from the dermis to the epidermis - from deeper layers of the skin to the outer layer.
- Hyaluronic acid is for people who need to maintain healthy joint flexibility, especially in their knees, by moisturizing their joints.
- Fifty percent of the body’s naturally produced hyaluronic acid in the epidermis is metabolized and excreted in less than 24 hours, making it crucial to maintain your body’s hyaluronic acid levels
